Kate says ...... "I was born in Dorchester and moved to Scotland as a teenager, having always loved living near the sea I was very happy to return here 6 years ago with husband Andy and our now teenage daughters. After careers in the clothing industry and manufacturing (which started my interest in recycling and circular economy thinking) followed by 21 years in the Army, I am now self employed in Homeopathy - less corporate but equally interesting and life affirming. As a family we have a small allotment at Frome Terrace and also host for Dorset Nightstop (part of Action for Children) supporting homeless 16-25 year olds by offering emergency accommodation. I have been actively involved as a parent with local schools and I served for 3 years as treasurer for Central Dorchester Scout Group. I’m interested in the urban environment, how public space and facilities are accessed and used, provisions for young people, how we promote engagement and a sense of community - and then links to the wider environment around Dorchester and beyond, we have some amazing local resources. I see a society with less extremes of wealth and disenfranchisement as healthier and happier for all - hoping to attract involvement of younger people to the council and show that everyone has something of value to contribute and gains benefit from engaging. I also have a great interest in recycling from how the whole system is managed right down to individual actions and perceptions, I am always looking for ways to be resourceful and reuse/repurpose things: I am a great supporter of the Dorchester Car Boot Sale on Sunday morning. I was inspired to join the council having met local councillors with similar values and been impressed with their positive approach and what they achieve, am always happy to talk to people about local issues and ideas for the town."
