A key strategic aim of the Town Council is to work with others and do all that it can to implement the vision for the future of the town by providing local leadership, delivering local services, representing residents’ interests, and working with local partners and our community.
We actively promote community engagement and employ a full time Community Development Officer whose role it is to work with and help develop the local voluntary sector and support local residents - especially communities that are facing disadvantage, to help to foster social inclusion, community resilience, and engagement in civic life.
The Community Development Officer maintains a wide network of contacts and disseminates information, and networking opportunities. They host two community lunches per year and run a wide range of community and civic events.
They coordinate the Dorchester Youth Council, a group made up of 13-19 year olds who work on various initiatives to improve the lives of other young people and the wider community.
The Town Council also provides grant funding to a range of local community organisations.
