Play Areas

The extensive play area at The Great Field offers some of the most exciting and innovative equipment and structures in Dorset - with large structures providing challenging play for all ages.  The bespoke wooden structures were inspired by some of the landmark buildings in Poundbury.

The play area lies within The Great Field in Poundbury which is an extensive, newly created open space accessible from Peverell Avenue East and the bus stops on Mansell Square. 

The Pavilion next to the play area is run by by charitable trust and offers a range of refreshments and has a toilet.  It is open Tuesday to Sunday 9am – 5pm.

There is an enclosed younger children's play area suitable for children up to the age of eight. The play equipment includes rockers, a seesaw, baby swings and junior multi play structure.  Outside of the fenced play area there is a large grassed area which has football goals, a skateboard ramp and a BMX dirt track. There is also a large multi play structure and swings suitable for older children.  The area has seats and picnic tables.

This is an enclosed play area with activities suited to children under the age of eleven.  The play equipment includes a multi play structure, seesaw and rockers.  The area has a picnic table.

Outside of the fenced play area there is a large grassed area which has football goals and play equipment suitable for older children including a slide, swings, a seesaw, roundabout, large climbing frame and slalom/switchback balance runs.  The Cambridge Road side of the play area is also fenced.  The area has seats and picnic tables.

This is an enclosed play area set within a large grassed area with activities suited to children under the age of seven.  The play equipment includes baby swings, a roundabout, a seesaw and a multi play structure.  Picnic tables are located on the grass just outside of the play area.

It has activities suitable for a mixed age group.  The play equipment includes baby and standard swings, roundabout, two different types of slide, a seesaw, a trampoline and a tree pole climber.  This play area also has a brightly coloured original ‘Eddison' steam roller which all children love to explore with football and basketball equipment right next door.  The area has seats and picnic tables.

This is an enclosed play area and has activities suitable for a mixed age group.  The play equipment includes baby and standard swings, a seesaw, rockers, a slide, small and large climbing frames and a tic tac toe game.  The area has seats and picnic tables.

This play area forms part of Sandringham Sports Centre and is laid out near to the football pitch and free car park. The equipment provides activities for a mixed age group.  The play equipment includes a wooden multi play structure and a stand up seesaw.  There is also a kickwall and basket ball hoop located near to the play area plus a comprehensive selection of outdoor gym equipment.  Some of the equipment is designed to be used by less able children.  The area has seats and picnic tables.
