Janet Hewitt

West Ward

Janet was first elected to the Council in 2015 and is the current serving as Deputy Mayor.

She is a member of the Policy and the Planning & Environment Committees.

Janet says ...

"I was born in Bournemouth towards the end of the War and moved to Dorchester when I came out of the Royal Air Force and got married to the local postman. 

I went on to coach swimming to international level, some of my swimmers went on to compete for England, also developing teachers and teaching assistants to teach swimming, travelling all over Britain to deliver courses.  Today I lead Aquafit sessions at the local Leisure Centre 3 mornings a week.

I have been on the Town Council since 2015 and thoroughly enjoyed it, sitting on Planning and Management Committees.

I am very passionate about our Market Town.  We have a great history.

I am a trustee of Dorchester Municipal Charities and am very interested in letting older people live as independently as possible and enjoying a good quality of life.

My family of 4 children are grown up now, but  I enjoy looking after my grandchildren which I do on a regular basis."
