Skilled Gardener - Borough Gardens, Dorchester
Salary as at 1 April 2024 SCP 7 £24, 294 per year

Dorchester Town Council is looking for a trained and experienced Skilled Gardener. You should be a self-motivated person who will deliver a quality grounds maintenance service for visitors to the gardens to enjoy. The beautiful, historic gardens are centrally located in Dorchester and are heavily used offering a relaxing escape from the busy town. The gardens also host many vibrant events throughout the year and the program continues to expand. This is a working post, duties include the supervision and direction of allocated on–site staff and carrying out the full range of maintenance tasks such as: Grass cutting, shrub bed maintenance, nursery operations, weeding, ground-based tree maintenance, litter collection, hard and soft landscaping.
You will contribute to the design, cultivation and planting of seasonal bedding displays. In the absence of the Head Gardener, you will be responsible for the operation of the gardens.

Elections - 2nd May 2024
On Thursday 2nd May 2024 residents will be invited to elect councillors to Dorchester Town Council - with all 20 seats up for election.
Local elections took place on 2nd May 2024 for Dorchester Town Council, Dorset Council and the Dorset Police & Crime Commissioner. The results of these elections will be published as soon as they are available on Dorset Council’s website from 3rd May onwards.

Dorchester Town Council
We are the parish authority for the county town of Dorset. There has been a history of local government in the town since Anglo Saxon times and Dorchester has been the county town since 1305. It has elected a mayor since 1629. The Town Council was created in 1974.
The town has a population of around 20,000, which continues to grow quickly with the expansion of Dorchester at Poundbury and Brewery Square. The Town Council provides a range of community and recreational facilities, and promotes the town's interests with the other statutory bodies that operate in the town, notably the Dorset Council.
The Town Council has 20 members in five wards, elected for a period of 5 years. Elections to the Town Council took place on 2 May 2019, - results for each ward.
Mayor of Dorchester
Councillor Alistair Chisholm will serve as Mayor for the Council year to 20 May 2024. Alistair will be supported by the Mayoress, Kate Hebditch and Councillor Janet Hewitt as Deputy Mayor. His chosen charities for his Mayoral year are Dorchester Poverty Action Group and Mosaic.
