Borough Gardens Putting Green opens

20 Aug 2008

Putting has been re-introduced at Dorchester's award-winning Borough Gardens

Dorchester's Green Flag Award winning park, the Borough Gardens, has yet another attraction for visitors with the re-introduction of an 18 hole putting course.

It is several years since putting was available in the Gardens, and the new facility is being provided in a partnership between Dorchester Town Council, who own the park, and Rethink, who lead the group of local charities which runs the refreshment kiosk in the Gardens.

The putting green will be open - weather permitting - whenever the refreshment kiosk is open, and will cost £2 per person.

Town Clerk Dennis Holmes said "It has been a long-term aim of the Council to bring putting back to the Borough Gardens and we are delighted that our relationship with Rethink has made it possible.  It will give them additional income to help the people who they work on behalf of and provides an additional attraction in the Borough Gardens, building on the massive increase in its use which we have seen since the refurbishment project was completed."
