David was first elected to the Council in 1999.

He is currently the Mayor of Dorchester and is a member of all the Council's committees and panels.  As Mayor he chairs meetings of the full Council.

He also serves on the Dorchester Markets Joint Committee and represents the Council on the Dorset Association of Parish and Town Councils.

David is also a member of West Dorset District Council.

David says ...

"I am married to Lynda and we have two daughters and six grandchildren.  We moved to Dorchester in 1998 from Beaminster where I was a town and district councillor.  I have many interests and I serve on many voluntary bodies within the town.

 I have lived and worked in Dorchester and West Dorset for the last 20 years and I am proud of our area, its beautiful scenery and landscapes and of Dorchester in particular.  Its heritage as our county town and its significance in this respect is of vital importance to the area.  The town's economy provides housing, education, welfare and work not only for our residents but for many other people from the surrounding area.

It is a pleasure and a great priviliege to serve Dorchester as its Mayor.  I offer any organisation in the town my co-operation and help to further their work and I hope Dorchester and the area it serves continues to prosper and that its environment will long be enjoyed by everyone living in and visiting the town.

The Town Council over the years has adopted this principle and the result is there for everyone to see, the refurbishment of the Borough Gardens being a classic example.  The recent use of the historic Maumbury Rings has lead to some invigorating musical and classical events which have been enjoyed by many people.

We are all so lucky to live in a beautiful area where people care and we have a vibrant community.  We must all work towards maintaining the town, its heritage and this distinctive relationship for the futures of our children and grandchildren."
